The internet came back for a while yesterday and then went off again. It has been on and off and just now it came back again so I am trying to do some things before it goes off again.

Jan. 27, 2022

Wow, time has flown again aa usual. Almost a whole month.

On the 10th I had 4 new tires put on.almost R3800.00 . about $260.00 Not too bad. Mariannhas been doing a lot of business here for a long time so they gave a discount.

On the 11th, I went to Pick N’Pay and did shop;ing for Mpume, the woman who is blind. Almost R700.00 o dpn’t know how families manage, with 5 or more people.

On the 13th some friends took me to lunch but first a booster shot. Now I am protetced from the enemy. The John was far away so if there was need to hurry, IT would have been a disaster

On the 15th My Odtober couple fetched me for lunch and a relaxing day. Nice to get out and have someone else do the driving. You can see the sea from their house and there were 6 ships waiting to dock.

On the 18th I saw rhe orthopedic surgeon to check whether the physio was doing any good. He was positive about the good movement of the leg but it seems that I will have to keep up the physio indefinitely.  It gives me something to aim at.

On the 20th I took the care to Anthony, a panel beater to have some repairs done. R5500; I had a minor

Accident. R5500.00 ($ 365,00). Reasonable.

On the 22nd, I was invited to lunch with another couple and was fetched again. All have been vaccinated and boosterd so this is in  a lull in the omicron saga.

On the 27th I was taken to the pharmacy for my month’s meds. People , on .the whole, are very thoughtful with an older person.

It has been frustrating because for the past few days we have had no internet. It was finally fixed yesterday, Thursday afternoon, but went off again at night and isn’t back now so I will miss my usual reflections. I am

Typing this off line and when the internet comes back will put it in my blog.

I hope you will have had a nice weekend. Bye.

Jan. 9, 2021

I think it was Thursday night when I didn’t sleep the whole night. I kept getting attacked by these bloody spasms.Maybe every 20 or 15 seconds, one aafter the other after the other after the other, and I shouted “ give me a break”. But  a friend of mine who  is an orthopedic surgeon had mentioned something about Botox, given by injection in the relevant muscle. I qas so fed up the next day that I sent an email to my neurologist asking him if I could be considered a candidate for Botox, and explained why. I am still waiting for an answer. Many people, doctors included, are just now winding up their Christmas holiday so I will wait.

A few nights , last week, I sat on the veranda after supper and watched the swallows shooting around all over the place. They are amazing. They  come fushing at the building at full speed and just before banging into the building, they  put on the brakes and turn either left or right and shoot off at great and instant speed.zig zagging all the way, down to the ground and then up over the tree tops with ease, going this way and that and then turning back on themselves. .Amazing creatures.

Our petrol has gone up to just shy of R20 a litre. It is supposed to go down again this week. Transport is a killer.

Our Zondo Commission just handed in the first part of three parts of the report on its findings over the last several years regarding what is called STATE CAPTURE, the result of gross corruption and collusion between some Indian businessmen and some of our politicians (too many). We are awaiting expectantly, hoping against hope, that we will get some convictions. We are talking about billions and billions of rands. It brought South Africa to its knees and set the economy back years. Unless you have been following along all along, it won’t make sense to you. But it also includes putting people (cronies) in hight places and ministries not to do their job but to do what you tell them to do. Like trump appointing judges in all the openings to do his bidding when the time comes, but it isn’t just judges, but all ministries. Wow, it got stopped just in the nick of time before it became irreversible.

The ANC lost a lot of ground in the last election, getting just about 50% of the vote instead of their usual 62.9%, just shy of 2/3 ‘s. They are promising    AGAIN that they will do better, but people are very skeptical because they have been hearing these promises for more than 20 yrs. now and are unwilling to give them another chance. But the problem is that there is no other party that is strong enough to take the reins. Coalitions are not really the answer here as the different parties are so far apart in their thinking or in their ability to put their promises into action.

But as for me, aside from these bloody spasms, I seem to be doing OK. I am still determined to see the/ a doctor to find out why I am so lethargic since it really isn’t like me. I was more like the energizer bunny. Some strength is coming back but slowly slowly.

Because there was a break in the covid infections to the point where there were very few restrictions and it gave a chance to do a few house visits, always wearing a mask, sanitizing and keeping a safe distance. With Omicron there are more infections but less hospitalizations, and less deaths and serious complications. But one must still not let his/ her guard down. Still masks, etc. like everywhere else in the world.

That’s enough for now.
